Strong prompts are not longer — they are structured. Every effective visual prompt fills five slots, and models reward you for filling them explicitly.
The five slots
Subject: who or what, with one concrete detail ("a ceramicist’s hands, clay under the nails").
Setting: where and when, named plainly ("a workshop at golden hour").
Light: the source, not the mood ("one north-facing window").
Lens: the camera decision ("85mm, shallow depth of field").
Style: the medium anchor ("35mm film photograph, muted grade").
What to leave out
Adjective piles: "stunning, beautiful, epic" steer nothing.
Contradictions: "minimalist, richly detailed" makes the model average them.
Artist names as style: anchor to a medium instead.
If a slot is empty, the model fills it for you — and the model’s taste is nobody’s brand.
